Your very own universe

A new online community came to my attention the other day. It fits so well with the VIDFEST sci-fi theme, I’m beginning to think we’ve tapped deep into some serious zeitgeist here. The site is called Galaxiki (http://www.galaxiki.org). Galaxiki is a fictional galaxy created, maintained and owned by its community. The tagline is “a fictional galaxy anyone can edit.” Site members can name and edit stars, planets, moons; invent life forms and write stories about them, so that an entire imaginative sci-fi world is constantly evolving and creating.

In keeping with its universal theme, the site’s creator is working hard to develop Galaxiki for a number of languages. Currently, you can participate in German, French, and English, with plans in the works to offer Spanish and Portugese. The site creator, Jos Kirps, is from Luxembourg.

It’s free to sign up now too, so check it out. Who knew the Internet could now supply you with your own personal galaxy? While I’m not sure I want to have my own - just a teensy bit lonely - there might be a few people I could recommend go to a galaxy far, far away.
